Community and Connection
Service Sanitation Joins Women’s Conference
This past weekend, several women from various departments at Service Sanitation embarked on an exciting adventure to Satellite Industries’ Annual Women’s Conference in Leesburg, Virginia. For three days, they immersed themselves in a whirlwind of learning, networking, and, of course, a good dose of fun!
Keynote Wisdom Meets Breakout Fun
The Women’s Conference sponsored by Satellite Industries is an educational event focused on supercharging women in our industry by helping them forge professional connections, unleash brilliant ideas, and master the art of running a wildly successful businesses.
This year’s topics included creating a culture of love, taming your inner critic, learning how to read people, and understanding when to hit the reset button. Speakers included Betsy Allen-Manning, author of “Destination Workplace,” Shannon Bayer, a champion for women in leadership, and Evy Poumpouras, a Secret Service agent who’s guarded some of the world’s most high-profile figures.
There were also several other breakout sessions led by other company professionals. Among the breakout sessions, Emily Conner, Vice President of Service Sanitation discussed how and when a company should consider growing into a new market and the proper steps one should consider such as evaluating demand, reviewing operational capacity, and performing a competitive analysis.
Leaning into our Core Values
This conference proved to be a dynamic platform for us to fully embrace our core values of Community and Empowerment. It offered a fresh environment where the strength of teamwork ignites inspiration, drives initiative, and fuels relentless progress.
SWC once again brought some of the strongest women I’ve met in the industry back together. Its always a wonderful time getting to see one another in a welcoming, vulnerable state of mind ready to reset, recharge and rebuild. The networking, fellowship and education we do along side one another along with our fellow teammates is amazing. Its always refreshing to come back to work feeling determined and ready to deliver all the things we learned to our teams.
SWC provided valuable personal development opportunities for myself and our team. We engaged in challenging discussions, shared ideas, and connected with other women leaders, leading to significant personal growth. The conference was highly valuable, equipping us to return to our teams as improved leaders.
As a first time attendee to the SWC I was not sure what to expect. It was definitely a nice, surprising, filling and educational experience as I was able to listen and learn from all the wonderful women leaders that spoke and all the others I had the chance to meet during these days. One thing that stuck to me and I will apply to my work and personal life is that although we may all fall into certain “personality groups” We should not make assumptions, instead always look beyond that and get to know the Individual. I enjoyed all the fun activities and spending time with my co-workers!
SWC allowed us from SSI an opportunity to get together with other powerful women within our industry. It gave us time to engage and interact with other women that shared our struggles and also celebrate our victories. Just because we all don’t think the same don’t mean we aren’t a valuable part of the team. Spending quality time with my fellows leaders was amazing. “This world is uncontrollable but what I am able to control is myself.”
It’s been a great few days spending time with my fellow leadership team. I truly enjoyed learning actionable items that can benefit my team, the company, and all areas of life. Stress management, active listening, and tools to limit burnout have been appreciated. Fun with the team is an added bonus.
SWC provided a great opportunity to connect with my co-workers and other woman in my industry. Both the keynote speakers and the breakout speakers did a wonderful job and added valuable insight on many subjects. Can’t wait to put what I have learned into action.
