Determined to Deliver
Our Solution to the Hand Sanitizer Shortage
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for hand sanitizer replacement packets has gone through the roof. As the rest of the world fights for the same supply, we thought we could do our part to help by collecting and refilling the plastic packages inside our dispensers, helping the resources go further.
Utilizing thousands of empty sanitizer packets, drums of bulk hand sanitizer, and a team with a determined to delivery mentality is all it took to engineer up this unique solution. It’s a rather simple process, too!
At the end of each day, our service technicians have been turning in the empty plastic sanitizer sleeves they’ve collected throughout the day. The sleeves are collected from across the Midwest and transported to our Gary, Indiana branch where they are sorted into bins for processing.
A team of approximately 15 employees use a unique refilling station that allows them to refill two sanitizer bags at a time. Once the packet is filled to the correct amount, they are handed off to another team member who adds the pump nozzle and boxes it to be transported back to various branches across the region.
In just one day, our team was able to sort, fill, and package approximately 3,600 packets using just over eight barrels of hand sanitizer. With the future of unknowns lying ahead of us, we will continue filling our own sanitizer packets as needed.
A huge shout out to everyone who has been involved in this process. This includes members of our restroom trailer division, our mechanic crew, dispatch team, yard staff, and so many more who’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes to meet the needs of our customers. Together, we are determined to deliver!
