Dispatched to Chaos

Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts

Within three days of Hurricane Michael making landfall in Florida, we were able to mobilize a large fleet of drivers armed with 16 pumper trucks, 3 restrooms trailers, 20 ADA shower trailers, 6 laundry trailers, and hundreds of portable restrooms.  The trip from Chicago to Florida took about 15 hours and we were immediately dispatched upon our arrival to the affected areas — from Mexico Beach to Tallahassee.

As we approached the coastal cities, we knew this relief effort would be unlike anything we’ve experienced before: telephone poles snapped in half like toothpicks, full-size vehicles tossed about like micro-machines, and mobile homes suspended from trees like ornaments. There was no mercy shown and hundreds of single-family homes were simply blown away like a dandelion.

“I’ll never forget seeing two little girls, maybe around six or seven, pulling what looked to be part of their roof across a city street.  It was truly heartbreaking to see and proved as a simple reminder that although we are working in this disaster zone, many of these people (including the kids) are living in it.”

Mission Objective: Empower Progress

While our contracted time down south may be short, our mission is clear.  We’re here to provide the local community (and utility contractors) with the simple things such as a hot shower, clean restrooms, and running water.  It’s about empowering the region as they seek to rebuild their communities and provide hope to those who desperately need it.
